Time to vote GREEN!

As the time for federal elections draws near, we need to truly think of our futures. In my view, if no party is prepared to say they will introduce sloar, wind or tidal power on a national scale to replace coal power generation in two years, then they do not deserve our vote. Governments are playng the tune of big business and we do not need to burn or export coal anymore. The big businesses that are trading in fossil fuels must change tack in order to survive. The people don’t want smog and fumes anymore.

Casey City Council

1 out of 5

The City of Casey has the potential of being a great place to live. It has the advantage of being at the extremities of Melbourne so families can get out to see the countryside quickly and the freeway access into the heart of Melbourne to see the theatre and visit restaurants in a reasonable amount of time. The area too could bloom and become an attractive place for its own dining and entertainment attractions. Other features include parks and gardens and interesting places to visit such as The Old Cheese Factory, Myuna Farm, Wilson Botanical Park abnd the CranbournRoyal botanical Gardens. Cranbourne Race Track is a great place to visit also.

The let down is the Council itself. It has no regard for the health and safety of individuals when it comes to animal management. Some services in this area are tremendous, but if your neighbours dog is barking, be assured, if your neighbours are bullies, you are in for a battle that may take years to resolve. The local laws act in my view, inconsistently with state legislation. Local law number two is testing state legislation all the time. When you try and bring obvious problems that could be easitly solved to the attention of the council, you get nowhere!

If you think that the Council has respect for residents, think again. Without consultation of any residents affected by the Port of Hastings Corporations plans to expand its port and the associated Land Use and Transport Strategy, the council has decided to “support the Port of Hastings plans in principle”. What does that mean, I don’t know exactly, but I do feel sold out by this council, bullied by this council, ignorred by this council and have lost faith in this council.

It is sad to see a council support something that will negatively affect meny of its own residents. There was absolutely no consultation with residents on the planned port expansions in Westernport Bay and the planned transport corridors. Councillors that dare not affected by the plans, or support the plans for some reason, do not represent their constituants properly if they do not consult with them on such vast plans as of those proposed by the Port of Hastings Corporation.

An invitation is also being sent out to Al Gore, who produced the video “An Inconvenient Truth”, and I am absolutely sure he will no support a diesel consuming and polluting project such as are the planned port expansions at Westernport.

Residents too are being subjected to name calling by councillors just because they stand up for what they believe in. I oppose the Port Expansions and would like to get momentum on such an issue by soliciting support for my views by writing to all the newspapaers and politicians about it. If I don’t and it all ends up in a mess, I have only myself to blame. If I make a stand, then I have made an effort and can not be held accountable for doing nothing about it.

I encourage all to get active on issues they believe in, otherwise, you can expect others to dictate your lives for eternity.

Due to local government failing to fulfil its duties to enforce Victorian Legislation, I have become ploitically aware. I urge all Victorians to be aware of the politics of this state and stand up against junkets, disasterous projects, bullying and ignorance of the will of the people. Most of all, the failing to recognize the need to implement solar, wind and tidal power generation in this state.
